Subaru Trailseeker 2026: performance 280kW ‘electric Outback’ priced from $67,990

Japanese marque’s most-powerful all-wheel-drive EV yet brings 4.5sec-to-100km/h prowess, loads of features and over 530 kilometres of peak driving range

Subaru Australia has detailed its new two-variant Trailseeker EV line-up that will hit local showrooms priced from $67,990 before on-road costs for its regular ‘AWD’ guise.

The base version will be complemented with a higher-grade Touring that commands a six-grand premium ($73,990 list).

Dubbed a ‘Sport Electric Vehicle’ (SEV) by its maker, the Trailseeker is, at 280kW combined for its dual-motor powertrain, the most-powerful electric Subaru model yet. Despite the five-seat wagons’ all-terrain pitch (211mm ride height), the jacked-up electrics can dispatch 0-100km/h on hot-mix in a claimed 4.5 seconds.

Both versions use a 74.7kWh CATL lithium-ion battery, with the entry version boasting up to 533km (WLTP) of range and the more feature-laden, big-wheeled (20-inch) Touring stymied somewhat, returning a more modest 488km (WLTP) peak. All-terrain capability is augmented by dual-mode X-Mode drive programs calibrated for various conditions.

DC fast-charging tops out at 150kW, with a 10-80-percent charge said to take 30 minutes. AC charging is 22kW (three-phase) capable.

Appearance wise, the AWD marks itself out with 18-inch wheels, while the flagship Touring touts 20-inch rolling stock, a panoramic glass roof and the option of a two-tone paint colour scheme (an additional $1000).

Standard interior features across the two-variant lineup include a 7.0-inch LCD driver’s screen, 14-inch media touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, dual wireless phone chargers, a 360-degree camera system, a Multi-Terrain camera monitor system, ambient lighting and a digital rear-view mirror.

The $6000 premium for the Touring version adds interior goodies such as two-tone leather-accented trim (AWD is fully synthetic), front seat ventilation, driver seat memory, Advanced Parking Assist, and 220V/1500W vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability.

ADAS coverage includes an array of features under the Subaru Safety Sense umbrella as well as Subaru Vision Assist (blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert, safe exit assist) and a driver monitoring system.

Trailseeker joins the MY26 Solterra and the recently announced Uncharted models to create a trio of offerings under Subaru’s ‘Sport Electric Vehicle’ marketing label.
