More minivans! Denza confirms luxury D9 people mover for Australia, following B5 and B8 SUV arrival

Amid the rollout of its first and second models in Australia, Denza has its eyes on the next release – tackling the emerging luxury people mover space

Denza has confirmed the third model to launch in Australia will be the fully electric D9 luxury people mover.

It’s notably the first ‘true’ Denza vehicle to be sold under the brand locally, with the B5 and B8 4WD wagons being sourced from its Fangchengbao sister brand, under the BYD Auto group.

Priced at $85,990 before on-road costs in FWD guise and $95,990 for the AWD, the D9 is the latest addition to the growing but still niche luxury people mover segment, consisting of rivals such as the GAC M8 (from $86,999), Zeekr 009 (from $115,900) and Lexus LM (from $163,520).

Currently, the seven-seater is only available as a fully electric vehicle, though Chasing Cars understands a plug-in hybrid option is under consideration for Australia.

Luxury appointment as standard

The seven-seater features a 2+2+3 layout with two captain’s chairs in the centre row – complete with heating, ventilation, a massage function and power leg rests; all controlled via 5.5-inch screens built into the armrests.

Rows two and three enjoy 900mm of legroom, and 1500mm of headroom that Denza claims is the best in class. Between the second-row seats, a heat/cool box is found to store food and drinks.

At the front of the cabin, a 15.6-inch infotainment screen works in conjunction with a 10.25-inch digital driver’s display and a heads-up display. A 14-speaker, 420-watt Dynaudio sound system and Nappa Leather upholstery also come as standard.

Range and charging

Denza claims the AWD D9 will travel 480kms (WLTP) using the 103.3kWh battery, while the FWD will stretch further to 520km.

DC charging can reach speeds of up to 200kW, while home-style AC is capped at 11kW.

Exclusive to the AWD is Denza’s DiSus-C hydraulic adaptive suspension system.
