Fresh face from China arrives with pricing that’s sharper than the big names, but a lot dearer than T60
The upcoming LDV Terron 9 ute has been priced ahead of its Aussie showroom arrival next month. The Terron 9 will arrive in two trims, starting with the Origin and topping out with the Evolve.
Promotional launch prices are in place, with the Origin at $49,990 and Evolve $54,990 driveaway for ABN holders. The ‘special promotion’ will be available for a limited time, says LDV, after which prices will revert to $50,990 and $55,990, respectively.
This means the Terron 9 commands a $10,000 premium over its T60 Max stablemate, which costs $38,990 driveaway (ABN holder price) for the base model Pro.
Critically, the Terron 9 undercuts Australia’s biggest names in the dual-cab ute segment, including the $50,420 (list) Toyota Hilux Double Cab Workmate 4×4 and $50,880 (list) Ford Ranger Double Cab XL 4×4.
The Terron 9 also outsizes its segment rivals, measuring 180mm longer than the Hilux and running on a 3300mm wheelbase – 215mm longer than the Hilux’s 3,085mm.
Like the GWM Cannon Alpha and BYD Shark the Terron 9 ends up a half-size bigger than rivals, though still more compact than American pick-ups such as the Ram 1500.
Both grades of Terron 9 are powered by a 163kW/520Nm 2.5-litre four-cylinder turbo diesel engine paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission and full-time four-wheel drive.
The Terron 9’s braked towing capacity is 3500kg, and payload tops out at an impressive 1005kg (Evolve) or 1100kg (Origin) depending on grade.
Standard equipment for the Terron 9 includes 18-inch alloy wheels, roof rails, full-size spare wheel, side steps, Bi-LED headlights and a rear differential lock.
Inside, the Terron 9 features 6-way electric front seats, dual 12.3-inch displays (infotainment and cluster), and a four-speaker stereo.
Adding some luxury, the Evolve moves to larger 20-inch alloy wheels, gets a JBL premium sound system, heated and ventilated front seats, and heated rear seats. A front differential lock should also enhance capability.
LDV will soon price its upcoming eTerron 9, a dedicated electric ute built on the same platform as the soon to release diesel.
The eTerron 9 is set to be offered in both 200kW RWD and 325kW AWD forms, with a 3500kg braked towing capacity and range of 430km (WLTP).
