Ford Mondeo facelift launching in Q2 2019

Ford of Europe has unveiled the midlife facelift for the current generation Ford Mondeo, which launches in Australia in the second quarter of 2019. Featuring revised styling, new drivetrains and a hybrid wagon variant, it’s hoped that the 2019 Ford Mondeo will continue as one of Europe’s most popular mid-size cars.

Australian models will miss out on the hybrid, though will receive a new 140kW 2.0-litre turbo diesel and eight-speed automatic transmission from the Endura SUV. Ford says that there has been better differentiation between the available models, which could include the ST-Line locally for the first time.

“The Ford Mondeo Hybrid offers a unique driving experience with its refined automatic transmission and ability to pull away silently. Combined with the benefits of a low CO2 petrol engine we expect the Hybrid to account for up to 50 percent of sales,” said Roelant de Waard, vice president, Marketing, Sales & Service, Ford of Europe.

“At the same time we are introducing an all-new diesel powertrain with SCR (selective catalytic reduction) technology to meet and exceed the latest Euro 6d Temp emissions standards, with an all-new 8-speed automatic transmission available.”

While the exterior updates to the 2019 Ford Mondeo are best described as subtle, there is the latest version of Ford’s new corporate grille with new horizontal slats, while the bumpers have been redesigned for a sportier and bolder look. Ford has also revised the available styling for each model for better differentiation between the available specifications. The rear end has also been slightly redesigned with new tailights and new chrome parts for a classier look.

On the inside of the refreshed Mondeo, Ford has introduced the new rotary dial transmission. Freeing up centre console space has allowed the company to fit a new USB port, as well as new storage spots to place items. Material quality has been improved with new materials, while a new 8.0-inch touchscreen with Ford’s Sync 3 infotainment system is now fitted.

Under the bonnet of the 2019 Ford Mondeo is a new 140kW/400Nm 2.0-litre turbo diesel engine that’s matched to a new eight-speed automatic transmission from the new Focus small car and Endura SUV. Ford says that this new engine meets the latest emissions standards, as does the latest version of the Mondeo hybrid, which is now available in the wagon bodystyle for the first time.

Featuring a 137kW 2.0-litre petrol engine with an electric motor and 1.4kWh lithium-ion battery pack, the Mondeo hybrid uses 4.4L/100km on a combined cycle. Matched to a single-speed automatic transmission, the hybrid will be aimed at the Toyota Camry hybrid in Europe – though unlike the Camry, the Mondeo offers a wagon option.
