Stylish and armed with enough range for a return trip from Sydney to Canberra on a single charge, Renault’s seeking to target the head and heart of Aussie buyers
Renault has confirmed its new Scenic E-Tech will soon go on sale in Australia, with the electric small SUV boasting up to 625km of range from a single charge.
A three-variant lineup has been locked in for Australia, with prices kicking off from $55,990 before on-road costs and the choice of two trim levels and two power outputs.
While the price still puts it a fair way above affordable choices in the electric small SUV segment like the BYD Atto 3 (from $39,990 before on-roads), the Renault sits between base versions of mainstream options such as the Kia EV3 (from $47,600 and Hyundai Kona Electric (from $54,000)
The aforementioned starting figure applies to the entry-level Techno, armed with a 125kW/280Nm motor driving the front wheels. A 430km range is quoted for the 60kWh battery, with a peak DC charging rate of 130kW.
Priced at $59,990 before on-roads, the Techno Long Range swaps in a 160kW/300Nm front motor, and boasts the headline 625km range figure from the larger 87kWh battery, which bumps peak DC charging up to 150kW.
The top-spec Esprit Alpine featuring the same hardware will be the first to arrive, likely late this year or early next, $65,990 before on-road costs.
Both short ‘EV60’ and long-range ‘EV87’ Techno grades are fitted as standard with a 12.0-inch vertical touchscreen wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, working in conjunction with Google’s built-in software, a six-speaker Arkamys, wireless phone charger and a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display.
The cabin also features heated front seats and steering wheel, light grey cloth upholstery, over-the-air updates, an auto-dimming rear mirror, ambient lighting, a power tailgate and 19-inch alloy wheels on the outside.
In terms of safety, the Scenic features a 360-degree camera, lane centreing, blind-spot warning and intervention, front/rear parking sensors, safe exit assist, rear cross-traffic alert and more.
Stepping up to the Esprit Alpine EV87 adds six-way power adjustment for driver and front passenger seats, a massage function for the driver, synthetic ‘leather’ and cloth seat trim, a nine-speaker Harmon Kardon sound system, 20-inch alloy wheels, an infrared windscreen, along with variant Alpine-inspired styling touches inside and outside the cabin.
There’s also the option of matte paint for an additional $1200 on this grade exclusively. Two-tone and metallic paint are available across the range for $1000 and $800, respectively.
All prices listed are before on-road costs.
