BYD boosts electric and combined driving range of popular Sealion 6 mid-size SUV.
BYD has confirmed a new variant in its popular Sealion 6 plug-in hybrid medium SUV range sitting between the existing trims.
The new Dynamic Extended Range ($47,990, before on-road costs) boosts electric-only capability up to 140km (NEDC) thanks to a 26kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) blade battery.
Combined with a 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, outputs are 160kW and 300Nm for 0-100km/h in 3.9 seconds, while overall driving range is an impressive 1250km.
These are significant improvements over the Dynamic Standard Range and Essential, which are capable of 92km from the battery alone, and 1092km combined.
It also makes the Sealion 6 more competitive, with a longer EV range than the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV or Jaecoo J7, though still trailing the Haval H6 GT PHEV on paper.
Also new for the Dynamic Extended Range is black vinyl upholstery, replacing the black and tan combo. See below for the full feature list.
Other variants remain
The Premium remains at the top of the Sealion 6 range, packing an extra electric motor for all-wheel drive, 238kW/550Nm peak outputs and a faster 0-100km/h in 5.9 seconds. It also scores a head-up display.
So far in 2025, BYD has sold 2358 Sealion 6s in Australia for 3.2 percent market share.
The Sealion 6 Dynamic Extended range joins the rest of the medium SUV range today.
Prices listed are before on-road costs
