Skoda’s new Elroq promises to be an enticing electric counterpart to the petrol powered Karoq. Built on the same platform as the larger Enyaq, the Elroq will feature an 82kWh lithium-ion battery, single rear-mounted electric motor and a range of up to 529km.
With pricing starting from $54,990, the Elroq is the first all-new model in the Skoda line-up to feature the brand’s ‘Modern Solid’ design language, with an aim to capture a more contemporary and visually interesting design.
It’s also the first model to sport the new SKODA lettering across the bonnet, replacing the ‘winged arrow’ motif and stepping away from their older conservative styling.
Design wise, the ‘Modern Solid’ design brings a slimmer exterior look, such as the ‘moustache’ grille tech-deck, framed by the LED headlights which are a re-interpretation of the four-eyed SUV headlights, and overall it’s giving off a sleek and modern look.
The Elroq will launch in two variants, the base 85 Select from $54,990 list and the top-spec 130 Years Edition, priced from $64,990 before on-roads.
Both fit an 82kWh battery, each with a rear-axle mounted electric motor producing 210kW.
Performance is claimed to be 6.6 second for 0-100km/h, has 529km combined cycle in a single charge, and supports 175kW DC fast charging.
At 4.49 metres in length, the Elroq is one of the longer small SUVs, though Skoda Australia categorises it as ‘medium’. In comparison, Elroq is slightly longer than Toyota Corolla Cross (4.46m) as well as the likes of Skoda Kamiq (4.38m), Hyundai Kona (4.35m) and Volkswagen T-Roc (4.25m).
Inside, the Elroq doesn’t fall short of the ‘Simply Clever’ touches all around this sparkling new Timiano Green gem. From the over supply of cup holders, the extra 48 litres of storage through the centre console area, and the parcel shelf in the boot having two level options to maximise cargo space.
Safety wise, the Elroq line-up fits what Skoda calls its Travel Suite, which includes adaptive cruise control with stop and go and adaptive lane assist. Other features include AEB, turn assist, side assist, rear traffic alert and seven airbags.
