Range-topping Mitsubishi Triton Raider brings rugged off-road features plus Aussie suspension tune

Just weeks after the debut of the Triton-derived Nissan Navara, Mitsubishi has confirmed its new range topper will utilise a Premcar suspension tune – now sharing Nissan’s headline feature.

The Mitsubishi Triton Raider will arrive in May, positioned above the GSR as a rugged, off-road capable dual-cab which draws up-market off-road dual cabs like the $71,990 before on-road costs Toyota Hilux Rugged X and $68,418 Ford Ranger Wildtrak into contention.

Pricing for the Triton Raider is yet to be confirmed. We expect it to go beyond the $64,590 Triton GSR, and cost to the Raider’s recently released technical relation, the Nissan Navara Pro-4X.

The Navara Pro-4X starts from $69,890 and shares many features with the flagship Triton, including a locally developed Premcar off-road suspension tune, 9.0-inch infotainment screen, and 150kW/470Nm 2.4-litre twin-turbo diesel paired with a six-speed automatic transmission.

Premcar’s suspension tune consists of new front and rear dampers, new front springs with tweaked spring rates, and revised bump stops to enhance off-road ability.

A horizontally-mounted Yamaha damper – which features on the Triton GSR – is retained to reduce suspension noise and harshness.

Bronze, 18-inch alloy wheels wrapped with Bridgestone AT002 all-terrain tyres have been specially selected with this tune in mind.

The Raider’s track width increases by 20mm, now 1590mm, while ride height increases by up to 25mm, now 1820mm. Unladen ground clearance at the front of the Triton Raider should be in the realm of 252mm.

Other features unique to the Triton Raider include uprated underbody protection, upgraded sports bar and side-protection, and unique decals including specific ‘Raider’ hub caps, ‘Sandstorm’ side decals, and ‘Raider’ badging.

Inside, the Raider gains black leather seats with orange stitching, and ‘Raider’ insignia on both the headrests and centre console. The Raider’s feature list is otherwise identical to the Triton GSR.

Further information regarding Mitsubishi’s new Triton Raider, including pricing, is expected to be released on Friday, 10 April at the Melbourne Motor Show.
