Vale Queen Elizabeth II

We note with deep respect and profound sadness the death of Queen Elizabeth II (1926-2022).

Her Late Majesty reigned as Queen of Australia for 70 years, from 6 February 1952 until 8 September 2022.

Queen Elizabeth acceded the throne upon the death of King George VI and has been succeeded today by King Charles III.

The seventieth anniversary of the Queen’s accession to the throne was marked by Platinum Jubilee celebrations earlier in the year.

At the time of her death, Queen Elizabeth was queen regnant of Australia and 14 other Commonwealth realms, including the United Kingdom, New Zealand, and Canada.

Her Late Majesty was renowned for her active interest in driving and was photographed at the wheel of many vehicles throughout her reign.

Her Late Majesty is known to have had a particular affection for Land Rover vehicles and in the Second World War, worked in the Commonwealth’s Auxiliary Territorial Service as a truck mechanic.

Australia mourns the death of the Queen.

Long live the King.
