Honda’s new-generation Prelude coupe debuts at$65,000 driveaway for a single premium spec with a hybrid powertrain, five colour option

Honda’s revival of the long-dead Prelude nameplate has reached fruition in Australia with the announcement of its pricing – $65,000 driveaway for the single premium spec, powered by a hybrid drivetrain – and the opening of order books before the 2026 Prelude officially launches here in May.

Offered in five colours (Crystal Black, Meteoroid Grey, Moonlit White, Racing Blue, Rallye Red) and featuring a 135kW/315Nm 2.0-litre petrol-hybrid four-cylinder engine (with an exceptional 4.3L/100km combined fuel-consumption claim), the new Prelude will be more about handling and style than outright grunt.

But it does debut an S+ Shift Mode that introduces virtual gear changes and engine sounds, as well as Comfort, GT, Sport and Individual drive modes. New Prelude also scores manual steering-wheel paddles and a push-button shift-by-wire transmission selector.

Riding on a 2605mm wheelbase, the Prelude Hybrid features dual-axis strut front suspension, multi-link rear suspension, adaptive damping and dual-pinion, motion-adaptive electric power steering. Brakes are 350mm Brembo ventilated front discs with four-piston calipers, supported by 305mm solid-disc rears.

It’s also heavier at 1468kg (versus around 1300kg). Boot space is 264 litres, or 663 litres with the rear backrests folded.
