As BYD’s list of locally sold models grow in Australia, the Denza brand has officially been confirmed for Australia with two much-anticipated models, the first slated to arrive.
BYD’s premium sub-brand Denza has finally been confirmed for the Australian market with an arrival date now officially slated for November this year.
The B5 and B8 4×4 wagons – known as the Leopard 5 and Leopard 8 in China – will be the first to arrive in Australia, with the pair sporting plug-in hybrid powertrains and offering five- and seven-seat layouts respectively.
In a similar way that the BYD Shark 6 capitalised on the slow-moving and largely diesel-exclusive ute segment, the B5 and B8 will target rivals such as the Ford Everest and Toyota LandCruiser Prado in the large SUV segment.
It’s unclear exactly where pricing will fall in Australia, and thus who its rivals will be, as the pair fall under the luxury Denza brand – but it’s expected that pricing will be sharp at launch.
The Denza brand will serve as the local badge for three of BYD’s many sub-brands, though it’s not clear exactly what the other two will be.
Chasing Cars recently had a chance to drive the Denza B5 and B8 in the brand’s home market of China and noted that the pair were a notable setup in off-road capability, when compared to the Shark 6.
Not yet confirmed is the flagship Yangwang U8, which has been spotted several times undergoing testing in Australia and is expected to launch in our market in the near future.
