Denza Z9 GT 2026: Bonkers tri-motor 850kW electric car with nine-minute charging bound for Oz in Q3 this year

Aussie-bound electric hyper-wagon touts 2.7sec 0-100km/h performance and up to 820 kilometres of range

BYD’s luxury offshoot Denza today confirmed that its high-performance electric Z9 GT wagon-esque “grand tourer” will hit local showrooms in Q3 this year. And it’s out to stake its claim to all manner of electric-car benchmarks once it arrives.

Making its debut at the Melbourne Motor Show this week, the triple-motor five-door promises to bring 850kW to showrooms, or 1130 horsepower by the old measure.

While BYD Australia has yet to disclose exact pricing and specifications at the Z9GT’s Melbourne unveiling, its importer suggests that the Z9GT will be capable of 2.7-second 0-100km/h performance, on par with the quickest electrics currently offered by Tesla and Porsche.

The Z9GT is powered by BYD Australia calls its Blade Battery 2.0 that, when paired with Denza’s Flash ultra-fast charging infrastructure, is claimed to be capable of returning a 10-97 percent charging in just nine minutes.

The Flash charging sites, which are due to be rolled out by the end of this year at select Denza dealers in Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide, peak at an incredible 1500kW DC. According to BYD Australia, Flash can add “hundreds of kilometres of real-world driving…in the time it takes to grab a coffee.”

This 1500kW rate is around four times the power of the quickest charging capability (400kW) currently offered in Australia as a best-case-scenario.

Range wise, it’s suggested that the local Z9GT’s peak range “of around 820 kilometres,” albeit in overseas specification using the lenient CLTC measure rather than the locally adopted WLTP.

“Highlights” of the Chinese luxo-performance figurehead include DiSus-A active air suspension, rear-wheel steering, Nappa leather massage seating, a huge 50-inch augmented reality head-up display, 128-colour ambient lighting and…a built-in refrigerator.
