2018 Mercedes-AMG G63 Australian pricing

Originally revealed at the 2018 Detroit Auto Show, Australian pricing and specifications for the 2018 Mercedes-AMG G63 have been announced ahead of the car’s local arrival in August. Powering the AMG G63 is a twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8 producing 430kW of power and massive 850Nm of torque.

Priced from $247,000 plus on-road costs, the G63 will initially be the only new G-Class variant that Australia receives – the petrol V8 G500 that sits below it has been ruled out for Australian consumption, for now, though a less expensive V6 diesel G350d will be offered early in 2019.

“The new AMG G63 brings driving performance to the segment of unadulterated off-road vehicles in unexpected form. It was important for us to tie in with the original character on account of the cult status the G63 enjoys with our customers and fans. The vehicle has nevertheless reached a completely new dimension in terms of technology with the 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine as well as in combination with the off-road characteristics, the agility and the vehicle dynamics achieved”, explains Tobias Moers, CEO of Mercedes-AMG GmbH.

“This applies to the entire G-C lass model series. Mercedes-AMG is responsible for their suspension and chassis development as well as V8 competence.”

Powered by the same 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 as other AMG models in the range – including the C63 and AMG GT – the 2018 Mercedes-AMG G63 is also equipped with a new nine-speed automatic transmission. Producing a huge 430kW of power, and a massive 850Nm of torque between 2,500-3,500rpm, the AMG G63 is a very quick SUV. Mercedes claims a 0-100km/h time of just 4.5 seconds, and an electronically limited top speed of 220km/h. Equipped with cylinder deactivation, Mercedes claims fuel consumption of 13.2L/100km and CO2 emissions of 299g/km.

Like the standard G-Class however, the G63 is still equipped with the off-road technology that the G-Class is famed for. An on-the-fly switchable low-range gearbox is standard equipment, along with a central locking differential. Like the standard G-Class, a new five-point multi-link rear suspension system has joined the range, as has AMG’s Ride Control adaptive dampers to enhance the car’s ride quality, no matter the surface/condition.
