2015 Subaru Forester: Australian price and specs

Significant price cuts of between $1,500 and $3,500 headline the 2015 updates for Subaru’s Forester SUV – and that’s on top of existing discounts that were the result of the Australia-Japan Free Trade Agreement.

The catch – the two cheapest Foresters have been lopped from the range, foisting entry-level status to the formerly mid-spec 2.0i-L manual, which now goes for $29,990.

Additionally, buyers after a diesel Forester now benefit from an automatic option, though it’s in the form of a continuously-variable gearbox that is a love it or loathe it proposition. All diesel Foresters gain refinement improvements through a recalibrated transmission control unit.

The same four engines remain to motivate the Forester: two naturally aspirated four-cylinder petrols in 2-litre or 2.5-litre guises; a two-litre turbodiesel which returns 5.9L/100km for the manual; and our pick, the two-litre turbo petrol found in the sporty XT variant, which spits out 177kW and 350Nm.

Inside, the Forester has ditched the awful third-party touchscreen previously shared with low-end Toyota products. All cars now gain Subaru’s own flush-fitting seven-inch touch unit; there’s a new voice control engine, and nicer trims inside.
